Gears Of War Ultimate Edition is a remaster of the phenomenal Xbox 360 game released in 2006. The original Gears of War holds a heavy place in my gaming heart. For me it was the first game on the Xbox 360 that I was wowed by. The third person shooter was a dark, gloomy and beautiful game. The campaign was excellent for a shooter and had a high level of fun. The five acts was jam packed with action and epic moments. Now for the multiplayer, this is where I spent most of my time. The fluid and thrilling gameplay was I have most of my memories from. Whether it’s those rare moments when I was able to pull off a four versus one on Mansion or just having fun with friends by doing one versus ones on Gridlock with Longshots only. This was one of my most memorable games of last generation.

Now with the release of Gears of War Ultimate Edition I am able to live out these moments again. The campaign is capped off at 30 FPS while the multiplayer is running at 60 FPS. Personally I cannot really tell the difference when I’m playing. The cutscenes looks truly stunning and make those epic moments look even more epic. The graphics in game are no different as well. Playing the multiplayer just brings so much nostalgia and I’m loving every second of it. The multiplayer includes all the maps including the DLC ones. They also added some new little features to the game as well that were implemented in the latter games. Some of those include game modes that weren’t in the original game, the marking of enemies, sensitivity settings, more control settings and the addition of an extra 90 minutes to the campaign that was only included in the PC version.

To me this is the perfect remaster. All I want from a remaster is the same game with upscaled graphics, more fluid gameplay, and some little extra features that make the game better than it originally was. When a remaster is released and there are major changes to it to make it feel like a whole other game, then that is bad news. But if you’re on the fence about this one then you should just get it. For a $40 price tag, it is more than worth it.
